Adult German courses 2019-2020

Location:

 The Episcopal Church of the Good Samaritan • 333 NW 35th St, Corvallis, OR 97330
(You will find us in the Education Wing classrooms.)

Time:

 We teach in three terms (as the OSU): Fall, Winter and Spring, but provide extra events and activities during the year and summer (please follow the facebook or contact us). Each term, we meet for 15 instructional hours (10 meetings, only Sunday classes meet for longer 6 meetings!)

We provide language instruction for adult students and youth students 16+. 

  • We teach in small groups, not to exceed 8 students and use textbook series "Berliner Platz Neu" for the first 3 years of instruction.
  • We love to offer additional educational events (presentations, conversation circles and theme-based activities).

Courses overview and description: 

1st Year German – 10x Thursdays / term: 6.00 – 7.30 pm (A 0-1 level) 

Description: For absolute beginners to German language and culture; meets weekly for 1 hour and 30 min; uses Berliner Platz Neu 1 (Students will have completed chapters 1-6 and additional cultural materials by the end of the year, working on chapters 1-2 in the Fall, 3-4 in the Winter and 5-6 in the Spring). 

 

2nd Year German – 10x Fridays / term: 4.15 – 5.45 pm (A1 level) 
Description: For beginners to German language and culture; meets weekly for 1 hour and 30 min; uses Berliner Platz Neu 1 (Students will have completed chapters 7-12 and additional cultural materials by the end of the year, working on chapters 7-8 in the Fall, 9-10 in the Winter and 11-12 in the Spring). 

 

2ndYear German INTENSIVE – 10x Wednesdays / term: 5.30 – 7.00 pm (A1/2 level) 
Description: For beginners to German language and culture; meets weekly for 1 hour and 30 min; uses Berliner Platz Neu 1 & 2 (Students will have completed chapters 7-14 and additional cultural materials by the end of the year, working on chapters 7-9 in the Fall, 10-12 in the Winter and 13-14 in the Spring). 

 

3rdYear German – 6x Sundays / term: 2.00 – 4.30 pm (A1/A2) 
Description: For students with a prior knowledge to the German language and culture; meets for 2 hours and 30 min; uses Berliner Platz Neu 2 (Students will have completed chapters 13-18 and additional cultural materials by the end of the academic year). 

 

4th year German – 10x Wednesdays / term: 5.30 – 7 pm (high A2/B1/B2) 
Description: For students with intermediate knowledge to the German language and culture; meets weekly for 1 hour and 30 min; uses Berliner Platz Neu 2 and 3 for Grammar review (Students will have reviewed chapters 21-24 (BP1) and 25- and additional cultural and reading materials by the end of the year, reading short texts for discussions, geography, history).
