Please join us every month via Zoom on a Tuesday (usually the second Tuesday) at 6-7pm for a presentation on various topics from German culture, language and research. German and English languages use based on the proficiency of visitors. Obtain Zoom credentials from your DSC instructor or from the school director.

Germans Abroad: Immigration and Culture in America and Beyond

Presenter: Dr. Elizabeth B. Jones

This talk will begin with a brief survey of German immigration to North and South America and introduce students to the ways German cultural traditions and language have become part of immigrants’ new homes, whether in the naming of streets and neighborhoods, architecture, festivals, food, music, etc.

(All levels of proficiency welcome, mainly English, but also some German used.)

Off the Beaten Track:
Lesser-known Natural Wonders in the German-Speaking Lands

Presenter: Dr. Elizabeth B. Jones

This talk will take students on a tour of beautiful and important natural areas in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland.  From the Wattenmeer in far northwest Germany to the ice caves of Austria’s Salzkammergut to the Tamina Gorge and thermal baths in Switzerland, students will discover new places to visit that may not be top of the list– but should not be missed!

(All levels of proficiency welcome, mainly English, but also some German used.)
