2020 Winter Break Free Classes for Children

Week 1

Time to Hibernate and Drink Hot Chocolate!
Time: 4-5 PM Wednesday December 2
Grades: 1-3

Materials: Black, white and orange paper; scissors; glue or tape; writing paper and pencils.

In this class, we will look at how different animals survive the winter season: from Bears who hibernate all winter long, to polar animals who survive the harshest winters. Since this is an informal class setting, children are encouraged to bring stuffed animals that relate to this theme, have a cup of hot chocolate, and maybe even wear winter animal themed clothes (or PJs)!

Let’s talk about winter animals! Sing songs, play games, craft, and cozy up to the computer. Since this is an informal class setting, children are encouraged to bring stuffed animals that relate to this theme, have a cup of hot chocolate, and maybe even wear winter animal themed clothes (or PJs)!

Materials: Paper or cardboard cut in the shape of Christmas trees; glue; items that they want to decorate their trees with (ideas: buttons, ribbon, glitter, tin foil); paper and pencils.

Christmas is almost here, and there is no better Christmas than a German Christmas. We will listen to German Christmas songs, learn some holiday vocabulary, make ornaments, and read a Christmas cookie recipe (that I hope you try!). Children are encouraged to dress-up and share any Holiday activities that they have done at home – no matter what you celebrate.

Get introduced to the little witch and her author Otfried Preussler. It is a short introduction to students who will start reading this book with class or to any curious visitor who would like to learn about this book. We will speak, read, watch, rhyme and play in this German session. Book knowledge not needed.
